Aspropotamos is a region of Trikala that distinguishes for its natural wealth. It is included in the European Network of Nature 2000-Natura and has very beautiful forests, meadows and rivers. Moreover, the superior department of Acheloos is also named Aspropotamos. In these parts ideal activities are rafting and hiking.

Action with rafting

It’s the most popular outdoor activity, because it combines the splendid natural environment with the sense of adrenaline and adventure. Rafting is done with boats of 6-8-10 people and each boat is directed by a professional driver of the river. Also, the descent is done with a hot dog and a monocraft. 

The part of the river between the Tria Potamia and the bridge Alexios is considered to be the most exciting. It is 2nd degree of difficulty with 3 passages. The continuous alternations of its speed keeps us in vigilance. The points of relaxation are few. When reaching the narrow gorge of Gardiki the action reaches its peak.

Hiking-trekking in Rona and the waterfall Mantani.

In the region, two paths are offered for walking:

1. The start point of the first one is at the traditional village Xaliki and end at the sources of Acheloos. In this path we will follow the way to the forest of Rona and we will reach the bridge of Filos. In the path you can also find traces of the brown bear.

2. One more path is the one that begins at the village Saint Paraskevi. Along the river we pass by the unique forests of Itamos and the imposing waterfall called “the Mantani of the Demon” an impressive natural phenomenon of 15 meters.
