PREFECTURE OF TRIKALA
The Prefecture of Trikala is one of the four prefectures of Thessaly and the Northwest region of Thessaly. Western borders with the prefectures of Arta and Ioannina, North to Grevena Prefecture, east with the prefecture of Larissa and South with Karditsa prefecture.
Findings in the cave Theopetra confirm the human presence in the Prefecture of the middle Paleolithic period. In the Prefecture found settlements of the Early Neolithic era, Mycenaean tombs and geometric graves.

The prefecture of Trikala is located in the north-west of the Region of Thessaly and it consists of 26 Local Authorities, of which 23 are Municipal Apartments and 3 are Extended Mountainous Communities. POPULATION - DEMOGRAPHIC ELEMENTS
The permanent population of the Prefecture of Trikala is 131.085 residents (GREEK NATIONAL STATISTICAL ORGANISATION, 2011) and corresponds to the 1, 3% of the total population of our country and to the 18,5% of the total population of Thessaly.
